Books I read in 2022 and will read again
I love reading… and this quote sums it up!
“You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me.”
~ C.S. Lewis (British writer and lay theologian)
Some books in particular will never be long enough and the only answer is to read them more than once.
Here are three books that I read in 2022 that I had already read or plan to read again. They are that good… the best of the best.
Spirituality of Gratitude – Joshua Kang – A friend sent this to me. I had not heard about it before and the topic deeply resonated within my heart in that I know that I need to grow in gratitude. What I liked about this book is that each of the chapters are about three pages, which makes it ideal as a daily reflection. So impactful was this book that I wound up reading it three times in 2022! I highly recommend this read if gratitude is something you want to focus on. It will challenge you!
A Grace Disguised – Jerry Sitzer. In the last several years we as a family have endured loss on a number of levels, with the most recent being the death of my father. As I have worked internationally, I must confess at times I have felt that my understanding of suffering and sorrow was shallow. I knew that I did not have a good framework to embrace it. Reading Jerry Sitzer’s journey in losing his mother, wife and daughter in a senseless car accident gave me good focal points to process my own losses. This book will stay on my bookshelf for years and I plan to read it again in 2023.
The Pursuit of God – A.W. Tozer. I read this book years ago when I was in my early 20s. I didn’t know who A.W. Tozer was, but I saw it in a bookstall and picked it up purely on the basis that the title interested me. Boy did it impact me. So much so, 2022 was the year that I read it for the third time. I was prompted by reading Scott Harrison’s book called ‘Thirst’ where he refers to this book and I was once again glad I read it. This is for me a timeless classic. Highly recommended.
